America – West Coast, Monterey, San Simeon, Santa Barbara

There is only one thing I hate about going to see places that are so beautiful is that there is going to be a time where you have to pack up and leave.

Having spent a few days in Yosemite National park having only seen a glimpse of what it had to offer we hit the road again and set of to Monterey. This wasn’t a big place on my list that I knew a lot about but I was interested into seeing what it had to offer. Arriving at our hotel that was located on the beach I was quite impressed with the view. However opening the door into our room I quickly noticed there wasn’t going to be much room to walk around.

I didn’t stay long in the room and went for a bit of a walk about. The first thing I noticed was a wedding happening on the beach, this was beautiful with the sun setting in the background and really set me in a good mood despite the weather not being overly sunny and warm considering being in California.

The main reason we stopped in Monterey was for the Peninsula where Pebble Beach golf course was situated. Not being much of a golf fan this wasn’t something that really appealed to me however just walking around the place was so nice. Being probably one of the most picturesque golf courses in the world it was hard not to pop out the camera and take a few pictures. The drive around the Peninsula is one of those drives where it takes you so long but you don’t get far as you just want to stop and enjoy the scenery.

The Big Sur

After a couple nights here we set off down Highway 1 through the Big Sur for this iconic California experience. I don’t think this drive felt like we were in California as a thunder storm started. Felt a little more like driving down the west coast of Ireland not something that I would have expected in California as they were meant to be having a drought.

We passed by Hearst Castle on our way to our hotel in San Simeon. This seemed like a cool place expect we didn’t go up and see it as they were running an expensive bus ride to be able to go up and see it so we quickly moved on. The whole area seemed to be in the middle of no where with not a whole lot around or anything rly to do, the bad weather on top of this didn’t rly help. It kinda seemed to be a little run down and nearly a sketch place to be and had this uncomfortable feeling walking around. On the bright side I got a really nice photo that is one of my favourite from this trip.

San Simeon – Santa Barbara

Only staying here over night to break up the long drive we set off early the next morning to Santa Barbara finally a bit of civilisation back again. This stop was predominantly to visit Six Flags Magic Mountain as our family is kinda theme park junkies. Voted the best Theme Park in 2015 the year we visited I had high hopes and expectations. The short queues at the beginning of the day was nice getting to ride one roller coaster back to back. However as the queues got longer the waiting time got kinda annoying however it was always worth the wait. However noticing that one of the roller coasters managed to get stuck mid way amused me as I had just been on it multiple times.
